Tranen van Eros

De Franse filosoof George Bataille schreef in de vorige eeuw het boek "De Tranen van Eros." In dit boek heeft hij een onderzoek gedaan tussen de verbinding tussen erotiek en dood en tussen orgasme en offer. De titel van het boek is het uitgangspunt voor de expositie in De Werkplaats op 15 maart 2009.

De expositie wordt samengesteld door een bonte selectie van internationale kunstenaars met verschillende disciplines. William Davison uit Canada en Hybryds uit België hebben speciaal voor deze expositie een soundtrack gemaakt voor twee nieuwe korte films van Jan Kees Helms. Nico Pronk heeft een aantal tekeningen naar mannelijk naakt gemaakt in gemengde technieken. In zijn werk benadert hij de erotiek vanuit de beleving van het model: ingetogen tegenover uitdagend, expliciet dan wel verborgen. Kirsten König en Ariën Bakker zullen eveneens met nieuw werk komen.

Tears of Eros is a book of the french philosopher George Bataille. He did an study to the link between death en erotics. The title of the book is also the title of the exhibition in march 2009.

W.A. Davison from Canada contributes with a music and a drawing. Hybryds form Belgium will also come with music and photography. Nico Pronk will exhibit some new drawings with a nude male modell. Jan Kees Helms will show two new films and photography. Kirsten König and Ariën Bakker will also show new work.

Video De Schreeuw

Hardgillend de deur uit...

Op zondag 15 februari 2009 werd de expositie "De Schreeuw" goed bezocht, ondanks het druilerige winterse weer.

De ruimte werd gevuld met de geluidscompositie A-Z Blender # 9 van Jos Smolders.

De geluidscompositie ondersteunde een nieuwe film van Jan Kees Helms. Roel Meelkop beschrijft in Vital Weekly het volgende over deze geluidscompositie:

"Track nine is basically a remix of sound material of The Institute of Screamscape Studies. Not surprising, since its 'director', Gregory Whitehead, is well known for the use of the human voice in his work. The piece starts off quite subdued with faint screams and quiet noises and doesn't release its full potential until halfway through. But then it starts to get going: screams get louder and more frequent and a high pitched whining sounds takes care of the rest. Still, everything is more or less under control, it seems. "

Naast de indringende filmbeelden en alomvattende geluid was er nieuw werk van Kirsten König. De schreeuw om aandacht voor nieuwe modeartikelen wordt regelmatig verbeeld door modellen. Dit beeld heeft zij omgevormd tot een nieuwe tassenreeks.

De expositie was dusdanig indringend voor een groot deel van het publiek dat zij het binnen een korte tijd de expositieruimte verlieten. Veel bezoekers waren meer op zoek naar harmonieuze en lieflijke beelden en dat werd binnen "De Schreeuw" niet gevonden.

"My Own Little Label" is a Dutch label launched in 2007. Since its birth the label has released 20+ cds in Mini-CDR-format from interesting projects such as Freiband, Bee Queen and solo projects of Dutch sound artists Peter Duimelinks, Roel Meelkop and Frans De Waard. Latest two albums on the label both comes from the owner of the label, Frans De Waard. First album is a soundtrack composed by Frans De Waard for the art video "Ijzig Vuur" which was created in a collaboration between Jan Kees Helms and the composer. "Ijzig vuur" in english means "ice cold fire", a title that makes sense as you watch the art video (i.e. on Youtube). The visual part of the video shows an ice block melting on a human body. The audio part of the video, and thus the music on present release titled "Profieldeel zeven" is a concrete sound collage of crackling noise drones reminiscent of the sound of burning fire. There is much vitality in the sound pallet of the piece meaning that this audio-only release works well. Interesting album.
